Christopher J Stone The May Day Bank Holiday

There is talk of abolishing May Day as a bank holiday and moving it to another date. The argument is that there are already too many bank holidays in the Spring, while at other times of the year there is a shortage.

However one of the suggested dates for its replacement is April 23rd, St George’s Day, which is only a week earlier.

This kind of gives the game away. The abolition of May Day has less to do with practical considerations, and more to do…

I agree the huts are rather small for painters, or printmakers or for those producing larger craft items.

Maybe a regular, say once per month, booking of the Umbrella Centre would work better. Either a Saturday or Sunday.  This allows artists to take tables and other than indemnity insurance there are no other costs. I was thinking of booking it and just posting an invitation to artists to sub let some tables - but if Made In Whitstable did it as an organisation it would…

I am looking for 2 or 3 printmakers to share a studio just off the High street In Whitstable.  It will be equipped with a Polymetaal etching press, bed size 50x100cms, hot plate, aquatint box, work surfaces, running water etc etc.

The studio does not have its own parking but is close to a number of pay and display car…

Susan Hubbard new website for whitstable

Can I remind everyone who hasn't already heard - Whitstable has a new community website for news and comment called whitstablepeople.co.uk

It's owned by a big media group BUT the local freelance publisher is one of your very own Made in Whitstable members, so please support it! It may prove a good extra forum for arts and crafts people to promote your events etc.

Susan Hubbard just knitting!

I've just launched a new website to encourage other knitters to develop this craft. It's called www.justknitting.co.uk and has useful hints and tips. I really hope people find it useful. I've done it because I got fed up with having to spend ages looking around the internet for different bits of info about knitting. Do have a look and let me know if you think I should include anything else.
