Event Description

WAYZGOOSE IN WHITSTABLE

The British Printing Society (Kent Branch) is sponsoring an ‘Arts & Craft and Print Fair’

in Whitstable on Saturday, August 6th at the United Reformed Church Hall

in Middle Wall.  The society will be exhibiting and demonstrating the art

of hand letterpress printing and offering for sale books related to the crafts

and private press publications. But particular emphasis is put on the presence

of one of the few remaining type casters in the country.

To help promote the resurgence of traditional craftsmanship in the area, the

society decided to include other like-minded hand-crafts people who will also show

and sell their work. They include, a woodworker, crafting furniture of considerable

individuality; an artist exhibiting and painting at the easel; a book binder; etchers;

and others designing and creating their own original works.

This is a ‘first’ for Whitstable and printers are expected to attend from Essex,

London, Surrey and Sussex to support this updated version of the old-time

annual wayzgoose enjoyed by printers over one hundred years ago.

The event opens at ten o’clock and will end at three, well in time for the Carnival

that takes place later that day. Refreshments will be available, admission is free

and the organisers have plans for it to be an annual Whitstable event.
